….and last, but certainly not least, let’s see somethings for the Mamas! Why should the kids have all the fun? Margaret Solow makes delicate necklaces from semi-precious stones, both smooth and faceted, which add a little glamor to any outfit. She also makes the Wabi-Sabi necklace by dropping liquid silver into sand and stringing the tiny imperfect shapes on red cord for a striking look.  Add one of these gorgeous necklaces to your jewellery box and you will have a piece that you can wear everyday for a simple touch of elegance.

Wooden Treasures

July 7th, 2011 by lisam

Nothing quite matches the natural beauty of wood, and here at Kol Kid, we have wooden creations to delight and surprize.

Born in 1923, Kristian Vedel was an integral part of the Scandinavian Design movement – and the Architect Bird is part of his legacy.  Their bodies can be turned upside down to create male or female birds, and by  placing the head on the body at any angle you desire, the birds’ expressions and moods seem to change. Coming in two different sizes and colors, the Architect bird is a lovely companion to your every day life.

A charmer for the hands, eyes and ears, The Mozartkugel is a deliciously smooth wooden orb. Wind it’s clockwork key and as is by magic, listen to the calming and delightful “Voi che sapete” from Mozarts wedding of Figaro. The Mozartkugel makes a beautiful newborn gift – not only does it play the perfect lullaby for baby, but it’s a beautiful object for Mum and dad to display.

Saddle-up young eco-lovers! The Tori rocking horse by plan  is made from end-of-life rubber wood that would otherwise have been burned into charcoal. The beautifully simple design provides hours of rocking fun while helping to hone balance and coordination, and folds flat for easy storage. Everyone wins with the Tori!

Gorillas, Elephants and Bears, oh my! With powerful hardwood frames that can hold many poses, elastic-band muscles and durable wood limbs that make them almost impervious to breakage, this range of gorgeous wooden beasts are a stunning addition to any household. Enduring classics that will withstand generations of play.

Robot toys are usually made of plastic and require batteries – but not this one!! Made from durable wood, the Cubebot is a non-traditional take on the toy robot. This pose-able guy folds into  a perfect cube – but he really loves to dance and is especially good at – you guessed it – the robot!
